As we near the end of the school year, we announce Ms. Mamrol’s official “retirement” as a full time teacher. This year is her 47th year as a teacher in the Archdiocese and her 43rd year at Immaculate Conception. Her commitment to education is outstanding. Ms. Mamrol will continue to prepare our Confirmation students in 6th grade Religion and work with students in Instructional Support next year. We are fortunate to be able to provide these educational opportunities for our students with Ms. Mamrol working on a part time basis. Our students who currently receive instructional support from Ms. Mamrol have consistently maintained and improved their grades in class and on standardized testing. With Ms. Mamrol’s support, they have grown to easily work independently in the various content areas. We are very happy to be able to continue to keep our students’ needs as a priority.
Our 6 Year Middle States Progress Report is completed and on line. This project continues our accreditation as part of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. All faculty members are a part of this endeavor and began in October to complete this step. Our mission, vision and goals will be of particular interest to you as we embark on the next 3-5 years. The address for the website is ces-msa.org. Click “DOAS” button, and enter 19046. Using the zip code is a quick way to narrow down the schools and find our school quickly. Happy reading!
Summer Reading lists will be going home with report cards next week. Please put these assignments in a safe place and remember how important it is to discuss what your child is reading with him/her. Comprehension improves only when there is an understanding beyond a recall of events in a selection.
Please note that on the last day of school, Perfect Attendance certificates are issued only to students who are 1) present and on time each instructional day 2) present a note for any excused lateness 3) are excused for absence due to deaths in the immediate family.
We are including information today for our students preparing for high school. After researching various programs, we recommend Avery Educational Services if you are considering a test prep. The director of this service is a long time Archdiocesan secondary school principal and is experienced with the various tests used for entrance to our local high schools. Class size is limited and the program is focused on the areas that have traditionally needed reinforcement for elementary students. Avery also offers a summer program for Elementary through High School students.
We are also adding an opportunity for students in grades 6-8 to our summer programs: A Writing Workshop. Mrs. Cipolla will be teaching this workshop and we have structured it to enable the students taking it to be able to participate in “real life” writing experiences. Information is included today and is on line.
If you have not had a chance to see our Art displays in Jenkintown: Old, New, You, this is where our students’ work is displayed: This Little Gallery, Peek-a-Boo Alley, Breslin’s, Jenkintown Jewelers, Fill-a-Bagel, Sewsiology, Mr. Paul, Beifeld Jewelers and Dunkin Donuts.
The Coordinator for Vocations to Consecrated Life is sponsoring a Girls of Goretti Vocations Conference for students to attend The Malvern Retreat House on June 23rd to learn about the life of St. Maria Goretti who is known as the patron saint of teenage girls. Detailed information and the registration form was sent home with our girl students in grades 5, 6, 7, and 8.
